Spring is the season where everything is new again. That means new beginnings, new growth, and new perspectives. It is also a time for spring cleaning - taking stock of what is most valuable and dispensing with what is not.
In this session, speakers from the USDA will cover how to identify what you don’t need and keep what you do, so you are fully prepared for the next big communications opportunity.
Breakout Session 1
Spring Cleaning: Essential Steps to be Fully Prepared for the Next Big Communications Opportunity
10:30 a.m.
Speaker:
Joni Geels, Chief, Marketing and Branding for Defense Health Agency (DHA)
You’ve been hearing it for years: segmentation is a digital best practice. More targeted communications – across a variety of tools – are most effective.
For communicators in federal government with massive audiences, segmentation can seem like a lot of work. But as the Defense Health Agency (DHA) found out, segmentation isn’t scary after all – in fact, their engagement in their annual healthcare recruitment strategy doubled after setting a more targeted strategy.
Join this session to get an intro to segmentation and hear how the DHA’s email outreach has become its more effective tool in reaching all audiences.
Breakout Session 2
Segmentation That Isn’t Scary: A Love Letter to Email Communications
10:50 a.m.
Speaker:
Lt. Col Avon Cornelius II, Marketing Officer, Army Enterprise Marketing Office, National Institutes of Health
In the United States, COVID-19 has taken a significant toll on communities of color, making clear the urgent need for treatments and vaccines that are effective for all Americans. The Combat COVID initiative brings together public and private organizations to increase awareness of, and enrollment in, federally supported clinical trials. To find treatments that work for all communities, it is critically important that trials enroll participants of different races, ethnicities, and ages, as well as people with disabilities.
Recruiting for clinical trials is challenging and requires culturally and linguistically appropriate communications. A thorough understanding of the landscape and a multilevel communications strategy, leveraging the assets of national and federal leaders as well as community stakeholders, are essential. Learn techniques for effective multicultural communications outreach, and how you and your networks can help Combat COVID.
